I was privileged to attend the Grote Business Precinct’s AGM on Tuesday night. It was fantastic to see such a dynamic group of business owners committed to injecting life into their precinct and our city.
Grote Street is the first impression many visitors get of Adelaide when they drive into the city. I believe the area needs to be celebrated and the streets redevelopment is long overdue.
It’s fantastic that the Grote Street Precinct have been so proactive in trying to give the area the facelift it needs. Unfortunately the Adelaide City Council has often not been as enthusiastic.
On Tuesday the president of the group, Tony Stacey, voiced the groups dissatisfaction with the current council. “My hope is that the newly elected council can perform at a much higher level than experienced to date. Planning and development is frustrating and the results are producing a mediocre development for the potentially great City of Adelaide.”
Good on Tony Stacey, the Grote Street Precinct and many others like them for persisting in the face of opposition.
Like Tony, I hope the new council will have the ambition, drive and vision that this city needs to lead us into the future.
