POLL: City the last place tourists should visit

Some days you see something that makes you look again.  Today is one of those days.  After reading an article about a backpacker surge in South Australia, I checked out a poll where readers were asked “Where is the best place to visit in South Australia”.

The results were stunning.

Our wine regions came up trumps with nearly a third of all votes, closely followed by Kangaroo Island.

But Central Adelaide, the capital city of this fine state, only scraped together 2% of the vote!

Surely with results like that we have no choice but to admit that Adelaide has well and truly fallen behind.

I Have a sensible idea for a excellent area for a multi stadium
make West Terrace Cemetery a Memorial Park as it is an
eyesore in the city, all buses pass through West Terrace
and the train at Mile End would make an excellent venue
all transport passes by the area now the Glenelg Tram now reaches the area also have some parks and gardens surrounding would brighton up the city.Having just come back fron Perth which is now a vibrant city with avenues of european trees ,Adelaide could look at Perth it is clean and everything is new, trains buses etc electrified trains
it is approx the same size of Adelaide,Adelaide is so far behind the other Cities I have been too .I left Adelaide 40 years ago it hasns’t changed, unfortunately it is going backwards instead of improving, the city has great potential only if the locals took a bit more pride in their city

Funny how it is always people from North Adelaide who don’t want anything to change.  What a boring life they must live!

My wife and I are always wondering what exciting things there are to do with our 4 1/2 year old son… sure, we have a museum, an art gallary and a zoo, but what else is there??  I’m sure that there are little crafty things, theatre and other community based activities which are on periodically--but you do have to keep a close watch on TV and in the papers to realise when and where they are!

I’d like to see more things to do for families in the city… but just as importantly making it easier to get around.  Parking is always an issue… then you have to walk forever from the outskirts into the heart of the city to do what??  Bring back the Myer Centre theme park (or similar)!!

For a young family to be able to come into the city for the day (any day of the week), there needs to be more (useful, practical) parks, places to play, places to rest, places to eat, things to do and see.

Honestly, the only way for us to really make coming to the city fun for my son is to come in on the train… THAT is the highlight of his trip!

Aside from that, GO DAVID!!!  also, the dequetteville Tce roundabout needs to go--even if it means taking a very small portion of our completely useless and ineffetive parklands for the benefit of all mandkind!

Hey mate I agree dont listen to this negative crap. This city needs more young people such as yourself to step up and make a revolutionary difference.
Good on ya mate, hope you get in and shake up this sleepy little inept, council.....

It’s not a video you idiots it’s called youtube. In all honesty I’m stunned you know how to use a computer. didn’t hear you on the radio David but I’m guessing you got a so called free ride because you actually made a sense. Don’t be put off by these small minded pensioners David. We need people like you in government.

Hey, I totally disagree, that interview was great, its fantastic that Amanda is helping Adelaide grow up and get some energy. Its a team effort to get this town where we all want it to be and people like Amanda have a key role to play in getting it there, go Amanda! Hey, and great to hear your voice Mr Campbell, you’ve got my confidence now… Not sure about that little video though.

I can’t believe the free ride Amanda Blair gave you on her radio show. She obviously has no idea what’s required to be an effective councillor.  There’s a reason young people are never on councils and listening to you both prattle on today made it so abundantly clear. And don’t get me even started on your childish video. Grow up.

I am originally from Adelaide now live in Sydney and miss Adelaides relatively good network of cycle tracks - in Sydney there are virtually none! However I have just returned from Vienna - also quite a flat city - and their amazing system of hire bike kiosks - whereby sturdy bikes with tracking systems can be hired from stands located around the city and nearby destinations - and the first half hour of use is free! If you take it for an hour its 1 Euro, 2 hours is 2 Euros etc - encourages you to put it back to a kiosk after your journey and let someone else use it. Tourists love it, locals love it, everyone uses it - why not Adelaide?

Couldn’t agree more Adelaide needs something iconic that will not only draw local South Australians back, but people from all over the world to come see. I love Adelaide but there’s so much more that could be done to liven up this place, eg a brand new muilti purpose stadium, iconic, unique, taller buildings and an extentsion of the new tram network. Note these are just some ideas. We have to quit being the followers in this country and start being a bit more bold in this city.
