I Have a sensible idea for a excellent area for a multi stadium
make West Terrace Cemetery a Memorial Park as it is an
eyesore in the city, all buses pass through West Terrace
and the train at Mile End would make an excellent venue
all transport passes by the area now the Glenelg Tram now reaches the area also have some parks and gardens surrounding would brighton up the city.Having just come back fron Perth which is now a vibrant city with avenues of european trees ,Adelaide could look at Perth it is clean and everything is new, trains buses etc electrified trains
it is approx the same size of Adelaide,Adelaide is so far behind the other Cities I have been too .I left Adelaide 40 years ago it hasns’t changed, unfortunately it is going backwards instead of improving, the city has great potential only if the locals took a bit more pride in their city

All I can say I good luck! We need someone young in the council and it’s good that you have vision to draw people from the suburbs and into the city. The unfortunate thing is the people from the outer suburbs are not allowed to vote! All the best!

As a British visitor to Australia, I have visited most of Australia’s large cities. I noticed each city had a specially iconic building; except Adelaide and Perth. Melbourne has the Rialto Towers and the Eureka Tower, Sydney the Syney Tower,Brisbane the Aurora and Canberra Parliament House.
Adelaide appears to be littered with medium-sized buildings, but there are no real “wow” buildings.
I looked this up, finding that Adelaide had no buildings in the top 25 tallest, which is outrageous considering that Adelaide’s population is similar to Perth and Brisbane. This will be good to revitalize the city of Adelaide

It has taken over a week since spotting your run through the Adelaide Indepedent (email Daily) where they did not link to either this site or the youtube the (very short) article was related to. Hope that issue has resolved itself… as you would have posted on an overseas site!
That’s to Video Hits - popped over to Ten just before going over to Insiders I saw an ad.... way too busy that I had to “rewind” my computer… to see it was yours and it had the website.
Anyway - best wishes in your move towards the ACC. Would your move back into the CBD if you did win?
Will “hit” you for a MySpcae “Friend” to keep an eye on your progression forward. It would be exciting (as a regular to council meetings over the years) to see a fresh face speaking in a council chamber.
If, you wish to respond you can through MySp/radionotes

I totally aggree with everything on this web page and absolutely love the funny duddy video. There are a couple of points i would like to make, first of all regarding finding a place to eat is very easy, Cafe piatto in rundle street serves a full menu all day everyday.
Second with regards to Glenelg I take my hat and the rest of my clothes to its council. They are doing things the business owners like me only dream of. The one thing rundle street lacks is balance, there needs to be a more proactive approach to bring entertainment and life all year round not just in March. It could be a nice night in september and Glenelg will be buzzing because it has a balance of retail/entertainment/residential/food.
The beach house is a mecca for kids what does rundle street offer for kids?

yes that is exactly what needs to be done… adelaide also needs work on its public transport system though starting with electrifying the train network like every other city in Australia has done. This will help with your plan to bring people in to the CBD.
The main thing that we should be doing is DOING something rather than just sit here and complain about it and say its never going to happen because its Adelaide.

Well you know what they say, any publicity is good publicity. Now thanks to the fact that they singled you out, your name will be all over the media and help to drive your cause. I know the temptation to watch something that has been ‘banned’, ‘removed’ or ‘complained’ about definitely drives people to NEED to watch it. Nicely done.

You have to be joking!!!! That is just crazy.Someone out there is very worried about the influence that you obviously have.
Its not exactly Johnny v’s Kevin, but it certainly seems like someone is standing up, puffing out their chest and trying to say “Dont muck around with us, we know exactly how to throw a spanner in your works”. Just brush it off and keep moving forward! You’re on the right track!

That is the dream council I guess. Reality is that even with the ‘perfect mix’ differences of opinion will always be a part of any team. How would it be if you were required to ‘market’ an idea that you just didnt agree with. Or someone with the finacial background was reserved about fiancially backing an idea of yours which they didnt support. How would you deal with these frustrations?
Yes, the dream and reality are often poles apart!!

While I applaud the fact that you are willing to stand up and share your vision for the FUTURE of Adelaide I wonder whether you have really had a long and hard look at the FUTUTRE of society in general . You cant change the future without imapcting the society in some way.
What concerns me with all your talk about progress, extending the opening hours of cafes, shops and the like, about creating a vibrant and ‘always on’ hub of activity in the CBD, is that you havent looked at the possible consequences of taking such a direction.
The very fabric of our society needs to be based on family and friends, not on entertainment alone. What happened to people gathering together in their homes for BBQ’s, dinner parties and quality time together. When you propose longer operating hours and creating a ‘hub of activity’ you indirectly mean that many people will be working longer hours and therefore losing the opportunity to spend time with family and loved ones in their own homes.
When you speak to people from Melbourne and Sydney, often a common link between the two is that many people (especially those living in the CBD) express that they are time poor. They dont get close to enough time to spend with the ones they love. They will often reflect on the days when they were guarenteed a weekend of leisure. Not anymore! This is one thing I really appreciate about Adelaide. We have managed to find a balance between work and leisure. Why do we need to become ‘another Sydney’. We are unique and it is that uniqueness that draws and keeps people here.
By all means, remain passionate about where you live and about beign a voice,- just dont forget to see the whole picture. Life is about more than just progress. So in all of your grand plans, do not lose site of this. You may be too young yet to appreacite this completely. May I suggest that if you at least listen to a little of what some of the more ‘senior’ members of council say, you may gain a bit more wisdom and a better balance for your plans for the future of ACC.

My wife and I are always wondering what exciting things there are to do with our 4 1/2 year old son… sure, we have a museum, an art gallary and a zoo, but what else is there?? I’m sure that there are little crafty things, theatre and other community based activities which are on periodically--but you do have to keep a close watch on TV and in the papers to realise when and where they are!
I’d like to see more things to do for families in the city… but just as importantly making it easier to get around. Parking is always an issue… then you have to walk forever from the outskirts into the heart of the city to do what?? Bring back the Myer Centre theme park (or similar)!!
For a young family to be able to come into the city for the day (any day of the week), there needs to be more (useful, practical) parks, places to play, places to rest, places to eat, things to do and see.
Honestly, the only way for us to really make coming to the city fun for my son is to come in on the train… THAT is the highlight of his trip!
Aside from that, GO DAVID!!! also, the dequetteville Tce roundabout needs to go--even if it means taking a very small portion of our completely useless and ineffetive parklands for the benefit of all mandkind!

Hey, I totally disagree, that interview was great, its fantastic that Amanda is helping Adelaide grow up and get some energy. Its a team effort to get this town where we all want it to be and people like Amanda have a key role to play in getting it there, go Amanda! Hey, and great to hear your voice Mr Campbell, you’ve got my confidence now… Not sure about that little video though.

I can’t believe the free ride Amanda Blair gave you on her radio show. She obviously has no idea what’s required to be an effective councillor. There’s a reason young people are never on councils and listening to you both prattle on today made it so abundantly clear. And don’t get me even started on your childish video. Grow up.

I am originally from Adelaide now live in Sydney and miss Adelaides relatively good network of cycle tracks - in Sydney there are virtually none! However I have just returned from Vienna - also quite a flat city - and their amazing system of hire bike kiosks - whereby sturdy bikes with tracking systems can be hired from stands located around the city and nearby destinations - and the first half hour of use is free! If you take it for an hour its 1 Euro, 2 hours is 2 Euros etc - encourages you to put it back to a kiosk after your journey and let someone else use it. Tourists love it, locals love it, everyone uses it - why not Adelaide?

Couldn’t agree more Adelaide needs something iconic that will not only draw local South Australians back, but people from all over the world to come see. I love Adelaide but there’s so much more that could be done to liven up this place, eg a brand new muilti purpose stadium, iconic, unique, taller buildings and an extentsion of the new tram network. Note these are just some ideas. We have to quit being the followers in this country and start being a bit more bold in this city.

PARKING PARKING PARKING. When parking is as easy and affordable as outer-suburbaban hubs like Marion I will come in and browse around on weekends.. Where do I park if I want to wander the gallery/museum precinct and how much is it going to cost me for this privilege?. Free up more car parking and more people may come… One only has to witness the crowds at marion on a saturday afternoon to see how Adelaide is sadly falling behind. I love the central market but that, too, is a major bunfight to visit. Over it… !

Simon Small from Coromandel Valley

I think there is quite a bit to do, but I believe the problem is that its poorly marketed. There are markets, bike rides, the Adelaide festival centre has heaps of music and arts and crafts… just to name a few. But the problem is that people aren’t aware of them.
Although it is a weird feeling when driving through Adelaide on Sunday, its like a ghost town, but only if you don’t know where to go.

I completely agree with those results. THERE IS ALMOST NOTHING TO DO IN THE CBD! Sure, there a plenty of great places to have a meal and check out a few nightclubs, but what else is there to do? Something needs to be done about this...and fast.

Rob from Eastern Suburbs

Obviously some too young to know who “Harold Pinter” is. Go and Google or Wikipedia it and you’ll see an old (yet famous) playwrite as a leaeding member of the “Theatre of the Absurd”. I expect he may be like Davies from “The Caretaker” always wanting to do up the lousy bedsit into the swanky penthouse. I expect that “Harold” is a bit jealous of the progress undertaken by others and jaded by the fact that he might be a bit of a “would coulda shoulda...”
While those that have the luxury of being able to maintain righteous rage about, let’s call it unnecessary development, what gets my goat is those complainers that buy into the city lifestyle then whinge about “noise” from long standing venues and then force change in licensing conditions. One might expect some conflicts of interest in these situations...same thing happened in Sydney when a bunch of ritzy flats were buily behind Luna Park. Complainers of noise included those close to North Sydney council, the same ones that granted the original reconditioned operating license to Luna Park two years earlier.
In any case, some constructive thoughts…
Being a resident of Adelaide by choice moving from Sydney, ACC should focus on turning Adelaide CBD into the Silicon Valley of the South. We have a unique layout, available infrastructure and a thriving and growing skill set. Let’s import some good business, fund good growth stories which will promote both youth (the inevitable architects of technolgy) and the more mature business captains that fund, manage and direct the youthful exuberance to greater success.
There is space for both but like most smallish cities, let’s try and put aside the petty politics, in-fighting and grass roots nepotism to feed the major political parties and DO SOMETHING OBJECTIVELY ALTRUISTIC for the GOOD OF ACC, Greater Adelaide and the State as a whole.

David I totally agree with you!.
If there’s one thing that excites me about the Warmer months in Adelaide, it’s the fact that even on a Monday night - Jetty Road is alive! It’s such a great atmosphere to be amongst - I just wish Rundle Street could adapt the same atmosphere so I would want to spend more time there.

Michael, oddly enough I did the same thing about a month ago. In other cities, Sunday is the day people head out for a lazy afternoon at a cafe or restaurant.

You know David, it’s not just Adelaide in the evenings that is dead, it was only a few weeks ago I was looking for a restaurant to serve food on a Sunday afternoon. I drove almost every street of the city and with the exception of fast food outlets I was hard pressed to find a single restaurant in Adeladie I could get a meal from a 3pm on a Sunday!
Not only that, try and get a meal on Gouger Street between the hours of 3pm and 6pm even on a weekday. One of the major food precincts in the capital city of our state and the street is literally dead during these times. You’d be hard pressed to find any other capital city of the world like that.
Adelaide is seriously dead.

Your right Mark, although I believe there is still a need for experience and wisdom on the council. I’m in my early Thirties and believe that there is hope for Adelaide, although so many of my friends have left for sunny QLD or reliable VIC.

Good luck David, you will need it.
